The company has already dabbled in making micropayments possible with lower transaction fees, but a more seamless integration with other services could really make the micropayment model - which has gained little traction in many realms - potentially viable.

Red Dead Redemption is an open-world, third-person, action-adventure game set at the tail end of the American West West era. Action takes place in the first few years of the twentieth century and revolves around the choices that the protagonist, former outlaw John Marston, is forced to make due to his blemished past. The game features a morality system assigning honor and fame points generated through the player's choices. It also features Wild West themed mini-games, new targeting and cover systems, extensive horse riding abilities, a wealth of period specific weapons and more than 40 huntable animals.

Review 1 : by Crorivco

Granted I am not that into sci-fi so I mostly stay away from those types, and I like old world ones, and only modern times or back, so this was from one of my favorite periods and lived up to my expectations.

PROS: The Landscape is breathtaking and almost completely open to you (within borders of the mountains around the territories/states) and leaves time for endless exploring both as part of the game and just to explore, Within a large bowl of sorts with mountains, mesas (and all type of western even other types of landscapes) or hemmed by the sea. The weapons are great and simple and period appopriate and varied. The Honor/Fame system is great and gives you choices. You can play in many orders, take time off and actually go do fun stuff like fight, shoot-up people, hunting (my fav), play poker, liar's dice, blackjack or horseshoes, or just ride around and either help or not help people. The buying/selling portion is fantastic, the accumulation and carrying of all weapons is great. The missions are fun for the most part, the clearing of hideouts and finding treasure is good. The menu's are bright and clear and easy to follow and keep track of all your various stats from how many wolves you skinned to how many people you shot from a train. etc. Dead Eye is cool, various levels. The challenges for Master Challenges are unique and are challenging, moreso than killing a bunch of gangmembers. The various towns and places are all very unique. Very rarely do you find somewhere you can not get to or get into. The fast travel, camping, stagecoach, and the map are great. The map is spectacular for getting around by laying a waypoint and shows a line to follow the road. The people rarely say the same thing and background conversations are funny at times. There are horsebreaking, nightwatch, cowherding jobs, and saloons and everything one excects in the west. Dueling is challenging but takes a bit to get down. You actually have strategic choices (when to do them, where to hide behind, stand, ride up or not, what gun to use (and most have their pros and cons), kill or capture) in alot of missions.

The riding your horse just around and exploring and occasionally shooting a bunch of animals and skinning them is some of the greatest gameplay ever I think. It is simple and homespun and yet a great marvel of video game technology. The animals and people and seasons and weather are so real.. If you notice the shadows if go with the sun and time of day. And at night riding your horse out under a full moon and sky full of stars feels like it takes you there...

It is fun with the mission in place to do and the graduation of the story (which is suberb) [going for 100% is addicting, fun and fairly challenging] but after though it is fun just to play, the point is gone. Sure you could go back and play through all on expert mode or play a different way.

CONS: [It looks long but these are mostly inconsequential, nitpicky things] I think you get some of the weapons/uniforms a bit late (binoculars you don't even get to way late) in the game to be useful. Also the results from the Master Challenges; you can't complete them until you get in new areas and by then the story is along so you've learned to make do. The new weapons along the way do greatly help though. The helping of non-unique strangers is exciting at first but later, though they vary in place and type you will learn to recognize them (as a person would in that environment) so you can steer clear or help or hurt (because by now you will probably be full on fame and honor if you have tried). Yeah are some animation glitches but most of the time they don't harm, and sometimes they are very funny. Jack, John's son, talks like a weirdo. It'd be more challenging if you lost your horse you couldn't always just call a new one, and instead had to find, break or steal. But I guess you could limit yourself. You can't drive the cars. The train takes forever to leave the station and is only like two running at once. Killing a bunch of animals and not having your horse to stand over it (and avoid cut scenes) and avoid skinning takes forever if you have 20 wolves, for instance. It is cool scene at first just like picking herbs but gets old. Other minor inconsistencies I'd hope they'd fix if made a new one: many chests are just decoration, all the ones you open look exactly the same; in a mission you shoot a lock off a jail door but later you can't do this in just playing, and some doors are locked so I think it should have break in feature/shoot lock; some of the guns are not correct to originals. Some guns don't penetrate what they would in life. Some are inconsistent depending on people/animals taking two where it should take one. etc.
All this is no big deal though. Eventually you get so much money you have nothing to buy but

ammo and so that takes away a bit. No new guns or outfits or houses and you don't need all 15 horses, just 3 best.... [John doesn't seem to need food or sleep (except to save)]
The pros so, so, so far outweigh any bad.

I could see one with Jack headed further West/Northwest or some other story line. Would be great. Just start and sail off from Punto Orgullo or Blackwater.

OVERALL: WELL worth the money, very enjoyable to play and do the missions (some are challenging, some side ones very challenging), all adds up, and you can try and get the achievments and cheats can be found. Great story line. Great gameplay and thought. Even greater, more beautiful, graphics/interactive landscape.

Review 2 : by Robin Solsjö Höglund

Lightning cracks outside the saloon, and the thunder booms, as I load another shell into my repeater-rifle to hoard off the lawmen coming to claim the bounty on my head. They all taunt me in their own various ways moments before succumbing to my weapon. A stray shot happens to hit a bone chandelier, which starts to swing, causing eerie shadows to creep across the room.

No, Red Dead Redemption is no mere "Grand Theft Horse". You'll be intrigued and overjoyed with the open world, just riding around on a fast steed while the sun slowly sets around you is a fantastic experience. But there's more to it than that - challenges, outfits, minigames (play a hand of poker or throw some horseshoes), stranger missions, rare weapons, breakable horses, unique environmental encounters, and of course a sandbox multiplayer mode where you can join a posse of eight players to rid the gang hideouts from villany, or just go out hunting for animals and pick flowers if you choose to. There's also the regular Free For All Deathmatches, Capture The Flag (in this case Bag), and unique downloadable co-op missions. However, all this might overshadow what lies at the core of the game - an extremely well-produced, gripping, funny and touching storyline with the flair of old westerns and the heart of a good adventure. This is no mere gangster story, but about a man seeking to leave his old ways behind and start over - but in order to do that, he'll have to reunite with his family, whether shedding blood on the way or not. To accompany him on his journey is a beautiful soundtrack, with a mixture of Morricone-style instrumentals and artist contributions.

Of course, no game is perfect though. There have been some server issues (players being "incompatible" and a "double microphone" effect which is easily fixed), and "griefing" is an annoying problem (online players can shoot anyone they like, thus running around like five year olds with toy guns). It can be tough to shoot people while you're indoors, trains block the path into certain towns, and some random encounters (which I call "hung wife-encouters") are nearly impossible to complete. These are just minor annoyances though, and they don't really take away from the overall enjoyment of a tremendously well-produced game, on a single disc so packed with expert

I always hated Madden games, but the new gameflow system takes out the complexity which stopped newcomers from playing madden games! If you don't like the system, you can choose to ignore the system and use the tried and tested play selection system.

Veterans are more upset because now newbies can actually compete with them. Honestly, I really love this, and have NEVER loved a madden game..ever.

My only gripe is the new code allowing you to play online. Should I sell my copy, the poor soul getting it will have to pay 10 bucks to do so. Though I understand the problem and the money issue to be had, I think it is a terrible thing to screw potential customers.

These new changes to bring casual gamers in really hurt the game. None of the features added were requested at all but let summarize the added features.
1. Gameflow-You press A and it picks a play for you good i guess if you can't do it yourself or dont care what play you do but is this really the main new feature added???

2. Improve Blocking and Catching - Awesome ive been waiting for the good blocking and catching for a while.

3. Defense - All i can say the hell happened? The defensive AI is worse than last year maybe even 09, playing online on all-pro the score has been over 40 points each game. I like scoring but this is ridiculous.

4. Online - Ok so if you quit while playing a ranked before 1st half ends you get no penalty and your opponent gets no win, yea EA what the hell where you thinking on this one.

5. Franchise Mode, Superstar, Madden Moments - The same as last year

Im sorry if you disagree but how can you rate this higher??Since I am a Madden fan I hope they fix the issues with a patch because this will have a short life span if they don't.

Concept: Take the best selling NFL video game simulation, revamp several systems and hope for the best.

Graphics: Graphics seem to be improved over last year's version of the game. Players are more detailed as are their uniforms and helmets. There are more equipment options to choose from as well such as breathe-right strips and eye black. Coaches are highly detailed and resemble their real-life counterparts. There are several new animations in the game that are fairly smooth.

The presentation on game day has also been improved. You will either be presented with a shot of key players exiting the game bus, a shot of the locker room prior to the game, or a side-by-side comparison of key players. Time outs, injuries and the end of quarters are each presented in their own unique way. The Superbowl presentation has been given a much needed facelift as well. I won't add spoilers here but there's a special guest should your team win the big game.

The only flaw I found with the graphics is that there are a few places, mainly on replays, where the animations are a bit jittery. It's nothing too distracting, however, as it doesn't interfere with the flow of your game.

Sound: Everything sounds like it should. There have also been major improvements to the commentary, pre-game chants, and crowds. The soundtrack is a nice mix of styles.

Commentary is handled by Cris Collinsworth and Gus Johnson. Gus Johnson replaces the robotic like voice of Tom Hammond that plagued this game for several years. Gus brings a lot of emotion into the game that Tom was missing. It's a great addition to the game.

Cris on the other hand is still Cris. His commentary is essentially a cut and paste job from previous installments of the game. There's nothing new for him to offer other than a few rookie names.

There are a few errors with the commentary such as calling Peyton Manning by his Brother Eli's name. [I found this error while playing the Vikings vs. Colts in Superbowl mode].

Crowd and stadium noises are authentic based on where you're playing. For instance, you will hear the Vikings horn sound after a TD or a first-down. Pre-game chants offered up by the players are also authentic to each team. It's a nice touch that adds to the realism of the game.

The soundtrack is a nice mix of styles and offers everything from Ozzy Osbourne to Sam Spence's instrumentals. There are a lot of older bands added such as Bush, Kiss, AC/DC and Guns n Roses.

Playability: Madden 2011 touts two new game play systems; Gameflow and Locomotion. Gameflow is a steam-lined version of play-calling while locomotion affects the way your players move. Also changed are the pre-snap options and audibles.

The Gameflow system allows the player to set up a game-plan by picking up to fifteen plays for any given situation. Like to run on first down? Pick several running plays for first down and give them a higher star rating than your pass plays. During a game you can either choose to use the gameflow systems have access to the entire playbook. When you use the Gameflow system your offensive and defensive coordinator will pick one of the plays for the situation you're facing. It's essentially a one button system that speeds up the flow of the game. As the game touts, you'll spend more time on the field and less in the playbook.

The locomotion system is a cut and paste job from NCAA 2011. The left analog stick controls the direction your player moves in while the right stick controls special moves such as jukes, leans and trucks. Other special moves such as stiff-arm, hurdle, spin and dive are handled by the buttons. The sprint button has been removed for Madden 2011 which forces the player to rely on blocks and special moves to gain yardage. The system is an improvement to the game but in my opinion it goes too far.

It is much, much easier to break and avoid tackles in Madden 2011 than in previous versions of the game. I typically play as the Vikings as I'm a huge Adrian Peterson fan. During the first two games of my season, I've been able to have Peterson rush for 421 yards and 8 touchdowns. The first game against the Saints he ran for 205 yards and 2 TD's. The second game, against the Dolphins, he ran for 216 yards and 6 TD's [tying the NFL record for most TD's in a single game]. That's simply unrealistic, even for someone as talented as Adrian Peterson. Keep in mind that I don't run a one dimensional offense either. During that two game stretch I was averaging roughly 250 YPG with Brett Favre.

The locomotion system also makes it easier for defensive players to make their way through the offensive line to the QB. You will definitely notice a huge difference in the amount of time you have to make your reads before taking a sack.

Pre-snap options are also different with this years Madden. Nearly everything is handled via the d-pad. The only time you'll be using the buttons on pre-snap is to choose the receiver you want to put in motion. The system may be confusing at first, especially if you've played under the old system for several years, but it is much more streamlined.

The two new systems are nice but need some tweaking.

Also changed is the audible system. Instead of having only a handful of plays to choose from you now have a series of plays based on what type of play you want to run. If you want to throw a deep pass, the AI will choose a play based on the personnel package you have on the field. It's a much needed change but again could use some tweaking. Instead of having the AI choose the play, the playbook could be opened up for the player to choose a play they want to audible to.

With every new system that is added, one is taken away. This year is no different. The kicking system that used the right analog stick is gone and has been replaced with the old three click system. It's an interesting change that I'm not sure was needed.

Entertainment: Madden 2011 allows the player to play through 30 years of dynasty mode. Other modes include Ultimate Team, Superbowl, and Play now.

Dynasty mode allows you take your favorite team and navigate the day to day operations through 30 seasons. You can sign free agents, run a draft, trade players and release them. Players skills either progress or deteriorate from year to year based on several factors. They will eventually retire when they're either hit a certain age or their no longer playing at a high level. It's a fun mode to play if you like trying to build a team from year to year.

Ultimate Team is a card game that is similar to Dynasty Mode. When you first sign into Ultimate Team you will be given a starter pack (essentially a group of low rated players). By playing games against other users or the CPU you earn coins which can be used to purchase new packs of cards or on cards that other players are auctioning off. The goal of this mode is to build the best team you can from those cards. It's an interesting mode but won't be for everyone.

Superbowl mode allows you to play Superbowl XLV with any two teams. You can even choose two teams from the same league.

Superstar mode allows you take control of your favorite player and finish out his career. You can also choose a rookie player if you so choose or make your own player. You can also import a player from 'Road to Glory' mode via NCAA Football 2011. There are no improvements in this mode and is once again a cut and paste job from previous installments of Madden.

Play Now mode is just as it sounds. You pick two teams, a stadium, set your weather and rules and play your game.

If you're not a football fan then Madden 2011 will not be for you.

Replay Value: Fairly High. With the ability to play through 30 seasons in a dynasty you will never have the exact same team for more than a few years.

Final Thoughts: Again, if you're not a football fan then you probably won't like this game. Madden 2011 is definitely a much needed upgrade over last years version. There are still flaws that need to be ironed out but overall it's a step in the right direction.

Java in android : Oracle Sues Google

In a tersely worded press release, Oracle announced that it was suing Google for patent and copyright infringement over its use of the Java programming language for Android development. Neither the press release nor the complaint filed in the US District Court for Northern California go into any significant detail.

"In developing Android, Google knowingly, directly, and repeatedly infringed Oracle's Java-related intellectual property" an Oracle spokesperson said in a statement. "This lawsuit seeks appropriate remedies for their infringement."

Google makes heavy use of Java in the Android software development kit (SDK). Third-party developers code Android apps in Java, which is then translated into bytecode that runs in Dalvik, Google's own custom VM. Google subsequently released the Android Native Development Kit, which allows developers to build Android components with C and C++. It is not intended to replace the Java development model, though, which remains the strongly preferred means of Android development.

Aside from its use of Java syntax, Google's Android SDK implementation is largely independent from Oracle's. It uses its own compiler and runtime tailored specifically for Android.

Originally developed by Sun Microsystems as a "write-once, run anywhere" language, Java became the property of Oracle when it purchased Sun in April 2009. Java was a significant part of the deal for Oracle, as it has been a major player in the world of Java middleware.

Prior to its acquisition by Oracle, Sun proved hostile to the Harmony Project, the Apache Software Foundation's attempt to build an Apache-licensed Java SE implementation. In addition to Dalvik, Google also uses Harmony's class libraries in Android, which has apparently aroused the ire of Oracle.

In the complaint, a copy of which was posted on VentureBeat, Oracle claims that Android, the Android SDK, and Dalvik all infringe on seven patents owned by the database giant. Oracle also accuses Google of "knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully" copying, preparing, publishing, and distributed its IP.

The fact that Oracle has chosen to sue Google over its implementation is sure to cause concern in the wider Java community.

Neither Oracle nor Google responded to our requests for comment in time for publication.
